Cross the floating bridge and follow the trail back to South Beach and the main parking lot.

From here, cross the suspension bridge to continue along the Buntzen Lake Trail or you can return on the same path for a shorter, easier hike.
Because of Covid they only allow so many cars in the parking lots !

Today we completed the Buntzen Lake Loop Trail in 2.5 hours for a total distance of 10.4 km with an elevation gain of 279 m. The temperature was a brisk 3-C and overcast.

Travelling uphill into the forest, eventually you will cross the powerline and pipeline and continue along a series of switchbacks until you reach the first viewpoint (which is not an official vista !). The overnight temperatures caused some ice patches to remain along the trail but not enough that micro spikes were required.

Before the suspension bridge was built, this trail portion completed the loop around Buntzen Lake.

This route is recommended for experienced and fit hikers only. Passing through the ancient mountain forest you will encounter several spectacular viewpoints overlooking Vancouver. If you take the east loop, just head back about 5 m or so from the viewpoint and find the marked trail. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
